One of their arguments is that capital punishment does not serve to deter crime. It violates the equal protection clause and the due process clause. Moreover, it is a cruel and inhuman method of punishment regardless of the means used to execute the criminal offender. It is also an irreversible process that deprives the offender from availing of new technologies that may be used to establish his innocence.
