Abortion

Abortion has always been one of the most sensitive issues. Many people, advocacy groups and organizations are against it for being a violation of the right to life. One of their main arguments is that abortion violates the human rights of the child. These groups also argue that abortion places in danger the life and health of the mother.

Despite these objections against abortion, it is still one of the most common surgical procedures being done in the United States today. According to present studies one in three American women will have had an abortion by the time they reach the age of 45. The number of women who seek abortion are also getting younger. According to the Guttmacher Institute also says that 57% of women having abortions are in their 20s. These are realities that cannot be ignored.

The perception of the Pro-Life groups on the issue of abortion is immaterial. Abortion will continue regardless of their perceptions and advocacies. Abortion will likewise continue even if laws are passed depriving those who avail of abortion services access to government aid.

It must however be stressed that so long as the government continues to take for granted the number of pregnant women who avail of abortion services, more women will be forced to seek the aid of physicians who secretly practice abortion. More women will suffer complications arising from these abortions. More women will die from the hands of unlicensed physicians secretly practicing abortion.

It is time for the government to make the right decision. The Supreme Court in the case of Roe v. Wade already did. Now is the time for the Legislature and the Executive Department to do the right thing.
